About Me

Life of an Artist

I have always been an artist. It's something that came naturally to me. To have vision, take a risk and create.

When I was 15 I started working as a cover designer for an online publishing company and ran my own business selling jewellery in Adelaide, South Australia.

After high school I went for a career in costume and set design and completed my Advanced Diploma of Design for Live Productions Theatre and Events in 2009. During my 3 years at The Adelaide Centre for the Arts I won Semi-Finalist in 2008 and 2009 for the Channel 9 Young Achiever Award, Best Costume at the Strasbourg International Film Festival 2008, and won the Minter Ellison and the Adelaide Festival Theatre Rising Star Award.

While working as a costume and set designer I sidelined as a props maker, face and body painter and an art teacher and sold oil paintings.

Eventually I moved to Edinburgh, Scotland and became a watercolour artist. I opened my Etsy store in March 2019 where I sell my original paintings, giclee prints and tote bags, and later that year I introduced my own line of t-shirts and hoodies. While running my stores and continually updating them with new pieces I have also been working on my first children's book which I hope to announce in 2020.

While continually experimenting with sketching, ink, watercolour and digital I feel my style is always growing but find my art still tends to reflect the wonders that inspired me as a child.

Growing up I enjoyed the simple pleasures of home grown food, climbing trees, stars in the sky and fossils to find. At first glance you would probably guess that I'm inspired by nature but I also love a good adventure, the idea of discovery and most things fantasy. Alan Lee and Brian Froud who created such fantastical worlds influenced my art the most. I was in awe of their art, the line work, etched details and muted colours. But I loved the bright world of Disney, the grit in Star Wars and the depth in Studio Ghibli.

Being an artist is being vulnerable. Allowing others to cherish and criticise a part of you. It's hard but also one of the most rewarding experiences. Opening those doors can make you stronger, give you the opportunity to connect with people and bring your own sense of colour into the world.
